Congresswoman and Former Treasurer Lynn Jenkins Endorses Ron Estes

September 20, 2010 -- U.S. Congresswoman Lynn Jenkins (R) endorsed Ron Estes (R) for Kansas Treasurer on Monday, September 20, 2010.

Jenkins, who was the former Kansas Treasurer before winning the Second Congressional District seat in November 2008, said she was endorsing Estes because of his experience as Sedgwick County Treasurer.

“Ron Estes has my strong support for his bid to be our next Kansas State Treasurer. He has the experience and leadership needed in this important administrative office,” said Jenkins. See Full Story


Candidates Differ on Fix to KPERS Shortfall

September 20, 2010 -- Both candidates for Kansas state treasurer said Monday that the state needs to tackle the long-term funding shortfall facing the pension system for teachers and other government workers, but they disagreed on how to get started.

Republican nominee Ron Estes, the Sedgwick County treasurer, said he'd form an advisory group to draft recommendations for legislators. State Treasurer Dennis McKinney, a Democrat, questioned the need for such a group and said both government agencies and their employees will have to contribute more money in the future to the Kansas Public Employees Retirement System.
